Photos from Poland Grandmother Gutowski's brother

Relative to the Gutowski’s in the US, Great-grandmother’s name was Katarzyna (Catherine) Klekotko and great-grandfather Andrzej (Andrew) Kalinowski.  Grandfather Peter Gutowski also comes from the same areas in Poland. Grandmother Bronislawa (Bernice) had seven siblings (Marianna, Alexander, Bronislaw, Stanisław, Bolesław, Jan, Aleksander) Aleksander was the youngest. during the 2nd World War, he was a soldier in the Anders Army and fought at Monte Casino. This image is of Aleksander (center) in Palestine WWII.

Anders’ Army was the informal yet common name of the Polish Armed Forces in the East in the period 1941–42, in recognition of its commander Władysław Anders.  The army was created in the Soviet Union but in March 1942 the army evacuated the Soviet Union and made its way through Iran to Palestine.  There it passed under British command and provided the bulk of the units and troops of the Polish II Corps of the Polish Armed Forces in the West, which took part in fighting in the Italian Campaign.

NataliaThese images are courtesy of Natalia Olszewska (who would be our second cousin I suppose).   There will be more to come.  Natalia has sent some interesting photos and provided accurate information.  I just need to format them and post them.  Many thanks to Natalia and her mother who by the way is Bernice (Gutowski) Budd’s doppelganger.
